Yes there are bears here. 🙂  And cougars.  And wolves.  And moosen in the woodinesen.
Vicki is still at a standstill… she is trying to find a loophole in the commandments, which is no bueno.  She is saying her weed use is for pleasure, but she is trying to get a prescription for it so she can still use it… not good.  At all.  In the end, she’ll be backed up to a wall of faith and she’s either gonna do it, or not.  We’re just praying.
Sister V is great.  🙂  I really like her.  I do sometimes have a hard time taking direction…. go figure.  Haha.  She’s just very set on keeping me focused.  Which is good, but at times very trying.  Because I feel like I can’t REALLY be myself around her.  But it’s all about humbling myself. 🙂  Which I can do.
The Knowles are all great!  They’re such an awesome family.  I love them!
Sunday was MARVELOUS!!!  We went out tracting last night, in the rain, in the dark, and we were both about ready to call it a night.  Then I said, let’s do this house up here.  It was kind of a sketchy looking one, but I just felt we needed to.  So we knocked, and this darling lady named Sandra answered the door.  She talked with us for like 45 minutes.  Her dad had just died a month ago and we had a very uplifting conversation with her.  So wonderful.
We have 3 new potential investigators, that we are actually meeting with tonight.  so PLEASE pray for Julene, Kyla, and Jeanenne.  That’d be awesome.
Mail takes about a week to 10 days.  I sent some letters last monday, so hopefully you’ll get them soon. that’s when I sent the sd card.
I love you sooo much!!!  I miss you all the time, but I’m where I need to be.
I know this.
It’s really hard.  REALLY hard.  Because I really just wanna quit some days, but I know I can’t.  People need me.  =D

Well, I actually gotta go!!!  We are cutting p-day short because of our appointments with the new potentials.  Pray for us!!!

😥  I love you!!!  Have a great week!

First Week in Canada!

Sister Vallejo and me

Hello my wonderful family and friends!!!!!!

So yeah my p-day is mondays.  I sent a postcard, and Sister Tilleman was SUPPOSED to send an email… maybe she forgot or you guys didn’t get it.  I LOVE my quilt.  It’s so nice and warm.  Which is good because it’s already getting chilly here.
I am in an area called Campbell River.  Google it.  It’s gorgeous!!!  Seriously.  It’s a little city on the coast.  Beautiful.
My companion’s name is Sister Vallejo.  It’s crazy, because Kayla’s aunt Teri told me to look for her, because she grew up in Cedar Hills and went to my elementary school.  We didn’t know each other, but she lived there!  Crazy!  So yeah, she’s my trainer.  She’s not Stones, but she is awesome!  She really helps me to stay focused on the gospel and not get sidetracked on other things. I do feel a little bit not like myself though because I can’t sing songs that aren’t hymns, I can’t quote movies… it’s really hard.  But it will be good.
I’m not allowed to listen to anything but hymns, mo-tab, and instrumental stuff, so sadly, not a lot of the stuff on the ipod.  But once again, obeying with exactness will help me.
President Tilleman is amazing.  Seriously.  5 months ago, he got attacked by a dog, and fell and hit his head on a concrete wall and had a serious spinal cord injury.  The doctors told him he wouldn’t walk again.  Well, obviously those docs didn’t know anything about the power of the Priesthood.  He’s walking around without anything to help him.  The AP’s gave him a blessing and he is healed.  He still feels pain sometimes, and he goes numb sometimes, but he’s amazing.  Honestly.  So we are a “white bible” mission.  Meaning, we obey with exactness.  Ergo…. mom will you tell Aaron to email me his address and then I will respond to his emails with snail mail?  We’re only allowed to email immediate family and grandparents.
We had a baptism scheduled this Wednesday for this adorable lady named Vicki, but it fell through because she is having a hard time with the Word of Wisdom.  It’s difficult, but she’s trying to do the best she can.  So we are going to think of a new date for her to work towards.
Mom that is crazy about your friend!!  That’s really so sad.  I don’t know where I’d be without the gospel! (well, not Canada, I can tell you that… hahaha)  It’s amazing how people can go astray.  The gospel is SO true, and there’s no denying it.  Honestly.
I have some letters I need to stick in the mail, because I didn’t have canadian stamps, so I had to buy some today and get them sent off.  So that’ll be happening today. 🙂
Darci’s lesson sounds fantastic!!!!  I can see how she’d be a great teacher, being a teacher for a living.
The ward in this area is TINY!!!  It’s actually a branch, and about 30-45 people come to church on Sundays.  It’s insane!  There’s this adorable lady named Sister Shideler who is very involved with the missionaries.  She bought us lunch last week and fed us supper the same day.  It was so nice.  And she’s signed up for like 3 suppers this week. (yeah…. we say supper here…. hahahahaha)
Our apartment is little, but super cozy and super cute.  I really love it.  We live over the garage of a member family in the ward named the Knowles.  They are from England.  They’ve got 3 adorable kids, Jacob who is 10, Isabelle who is 8, and Milly (Milicent) who is 5.  They’re super cheeky but really cute.  Isabelle wants to go on a mission. 🙂  They had us over for supper last night.  It was super good.  Sister Knowles made individual yorkshire puddings, and since she’s actually British… they were ridiculus.  Soo yummy.
Our yard is beautiful.  Honestly, you see the house, then the backyard is GORGEOUS.  and the yard all around is forest.  Literally.  We had a buck (deer) on the front porch the other day.  I got some pictures I’ll send you soon.  OH!  Actually, I’m sending the whole SD card today when I get home.  So look for that.
Well, my time is almost up.
I miss you all SOO much and I wish I could see you.
OH! that reminds me… they don’t do skype here on Christmas and Mother’s day. Just phone calls. 😥  Oh well, that’ll be great too.
Seriously can’t describe how much I miss you all.  It’s really hard at times. but It will be worth it.
Love you!!!

Ooooh Caaanadaaaa!!!!

I heard a quote this week that I LOVED and I”m going to start my email off with that:

”People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self centered.  Forgive them anyway.  If you are kind, people may accuse you of self ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.  If you are successful, you win false friends and real enemies.  Be successful anyway.  If you are honest and frank, people may try to cheat you.  Be honest and frank anyway.  What you spend years to build, someone could destroy overnight.  Build anyway.  If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.  The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow.  Do good anyway.  Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough.  Give the world the best you have anyway.  You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.”   -Mother Teresa.

I LOVED THAT!!!!!  So beautiful.

Well, this week has been really good!  I’m finally feeling comfortable with teaching, and Stonesy and I are really getting good at teaching in unity.  It’s a bummer we’re not going to the same mission.  We have one investigator named Barbara.  She’s our trc investigator.  Her parents were both killed in the Holocaust.  She’s never really believed in God, but she always WANTED to.  She was bumped around foster care growing up, so she attended lots of churches.

She talks…… A LOT!!!  And we were never able to get through a full lesson without her completely changing the subject.  We were pretty discouraged.  She’d come to know that God is there, that He is a ”somebody” in her words, meaning He has a body, and that He loves her.  Then last night was our final lesson with her.  We FINALLY got her to pray.  Her prayer started like this “Um…. Hi God…. It’s me, Barbara….” Then she proceeded to offer the SWEETEST and MOST SINCERE prayer I’ve ever heard.  We were all in tears at the end.

I am SO grateful for experiences like this one.  My purpose is to invite others to Come Unto Christ.  It’s really happening.  It’s the greatest purpose in the whole world.  I love being here.

So last night… Sister Mansfield, Sister Pyle, Stonesy, and I were bored.  So we took the massive bag of skittles (thanks mom!!!!) and played a game… we called it ”taste the rainbow”.  We would close our eyes, grab a random skittle and try to guess the color.  It was SO fun!! Either that or we’re starving for entertainment.  hahahaha

Well, next week, I’ll be emailing from CANADA!!!!!  HOORAY!!!!  I don’t know yet what day my p-day is… I’ll figure it out.

MOM AND DAD! expect a call between 8 and 10 next wednesday morning. I’m calling from Phoenix.

I love you all!!!!

Week One on the Alien Planet

Hello my dear family and friends!
This week has been amazing.  There have been a lot of ups and downs, but it’s been great.  The Spirit here is amazing.  I love it!
My companion’s name is Sister Stones.  She is 23.  She’s from Mesa Arizona.  She AWESOME!  Her and I really get along well.  She’s a music, movie, Disney, fiend just like me.  I love it.  I couldn’t have asked for a better one.  She is going the Washington DC South mission, sadly.
My district is so great!  We have 10 people, 6 elders and 4 sisters.  My roommates are Sister Mansfield and Sister Pyle.  They are so awesome and the 4 of us get along so well!  It’s a great time!
Our distric leader’s name is Elder Day.  He’s really great.  On the first day, we were speculating about which elder would be the DL.  I called it.  I was like “Elder Day is.  He just has the Spirit radiating from him.”  And it’s so true.  Every time he opens his mouth, something amazing comes out.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON in our district feels like we knew each other before we came here.  We honestly feel like we must have been buds in the pre-existance.  We just know each other and help each other and get along so well.
Our teachers’ names are Brother Pickett and Brother McQuay.  They are both incredible teachers!  I love them!  I learn so much every single time I have class.  This experience is amazing so far.
I will admit, I have had ups and downs.  There are times during the day when I just feel like “How can I do this?  This is so hard.”  But then I pray and ask for help and everything gets a lot  better.
I know that this gospel is SO true!!!  I cannot wait to go to Canada and teach it!! (once I figure out HOW to teach… hahaha)
I love you all so much and hope you have a great week!
Love always,
Sister Arbon
