Another Week In Canada, Eh?!

Sushi anyone?

First of all, yes….”Eh” is said ALL the time!  I have started saying it.  All the time.  It’s really kind of sad. hahaha.

So!  This was a week of miracles!!  Our friend Barb FINALLY came to church!!!  She has a date for December 12th, and come Hell or high water, she will be making it!!!  =D  She’s such an amazing person.  She also had her very first Priesthood blessing, from the Elders Quorum President, Brother Nielson.  He’s awesome.  It was a very VERY sacred experience so I won’t share too much, but it was very good for her.  Exactly what she needed.  I’m amazed all the time at the power in the Priesthood!  Such a blessing we have to have it restored!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We had a GREAT one!  No one remembered it was our Thanksgiving except for a non-member family named the McQueens.  They aren’t investigators.  They’re (he) is actually the leader of the deacon board and his family of the local Pentecostal church.  Haha.  They LOVE us though, and so this is the 3rd time they’ve had us over for dinner!  It was so great!  Wonderful people with INCREDIBLE faith in Jesus Christ.  Really neat how that works sometimes, some of the greatest people are not even of our faith.  (Cathee and Cristee for example. ♥ )  I’ll add a couple pictures.  Oh, and just so we’re clear, the things in the martini glasses, are virgin strawberry daiquiris.   They don’t even drink so it was all in good righteous fun. =]
We have a Korean member here named Jacob Jung.  He owns and runs the local hotel and sushi restaurant.  He is a STUD!!  He puts Book of Mormons in all the rooms and invites everyone to church!  He gave us a referral the other day, a guy named Stephen who is the head chef in the sushi restaurant.  So…. he had us go eat for free at the restaurant….  I ate things that I would never eat if it wasn’t to contact a referral. hahahaha.  I had tempura California roll, which was really good.  Then….. a roll with flying fish eggs…. yeah…. (this is a REAL Sushi place.  None of the fake stuff.. and it’s all fresh.)  Then…. Stephen found out that I hadn’t really had real stuff before………. so he sliced a slab of raw salmon, and raw tuna, put them on a ball of rice, and made me eat them.  Pictures will be attached. =]
Missionary work is the greatest work a person can do!  I urge all of you to start today, right this minute, to think of those that you can bring into the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!!!  I love you all!!!  You’re wonderful!!!!
Love Sister ArbonP.S. Oh, other funny thing, I’ve started being like danny….. I can now imitate the GA’s. hahahahahahahaha!!!  Seriously.  It’s a game we play in the car. “who am I?”  and it’s so fun. ha. thought you’d like that. =]

The wind never did cease

Hello Amazing Family and Friends!

This was a really great week for Port McNeill!  We had a very successful week!  It was a miracle!

We had a really great lesson with Barb on Thursday, we re-taught her lesson 2, and she told us she’d been living the Word of Wisdom for almost 2 weeks!  We were so excited for her!  We also taught her on Friday about the Book of Mormon.  She has finished it, and so we’ve restarted it with her, and are going to talk about what we’ve read every Friday.  She’s said that she has been getting a lot more out of it the second time around, which is awesome because she was very hesitant to restart it because “she never reads a book twice.”  She’s greatly enjoying it though!  Our lesson on Friday was very good.  Sister Neilson came with us, and was really great with Barb.  She helped her to see the blessings that come from keeping the commandments, and she was an absolute awesome person to take with us.  Barb was very emotional at the end.  She knows that it’s true.  We were able to set a date with her, for December 16th.  However, she did not come to church.  We are having a very hard time discerning what’s keeping her from coming.  We just are very unsure.

We had a fantastic zone meeting this week!  The Zone Leaders are great.  They did a great job with talking about how we can hasten the work by slowing down and truly loving all the people we come in contact with.

We had a lesson with Mandy this week, and our plan was actually to see where she was at and then we were probably going to put her in the reflecting pool, but when we asked if she would be baptized, she said yes and that she wanted her kids baptized too!  So her 9 year old daughter Jamie and her have a date of December 14th.  Phoenix, her son, is only 7 and won’t be 8 until next year.  We still have a lot to help her with before she can be ready for baptism, but she came to church yesterday and we really feel that she can make it.

We also taught Susan this week.  She is awesome!  We taught her Lesson 3, and invited her to be baptized.  She said “Maybe.”  It was a very solid maybe, because she then asked if Brandon, her 11 year old son, and Liron, her 7 year old daughter, could be baptized as well.  We were originally thinking of November 30th for her, but she said that Liron turns 8 on December 12th, and she would love to get baptized as a family.  So we’re going to probably push it to December for that.  It’s still not counted as a date, but we think this week, with the Lord’s help, we can get it! Yesterday was her 3rd time at church.  We taught about the Power of the Holy Ghost and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and how they differ. I LOOOOVE these people.
So we’re potentially looking at 7 baptisms in the month of December.  =]  Prayers would be amazing!!!
It’s been raining non stop here!!!  It really is fun, but also hard because we have to go tracting in it.  Haha!  It is SOOOO cold here.  SO cold. But we bundle up, in our 6 layers, (not joking), and go spread the GOOD NEWS!!!  There’s nothing better!
We saw a really neat fireside last night with a famous violinist, named Lindsey Stirling.  You should all look her up, she’s wonderful.  But she gave a really awesome thought in her talk, from the book of Ether.  She was talking about how scary it must have been for these people for the “tempests and furious winds” that were blowing them.  And then there many times when “they were buried in the depths of the sea, because of the mountain waves which broke upon them.”  So sometimes in our lives we have all these hard things, CRAZY trials we don’t know how to face, but she went on to quote Ether again… “And it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land.”  (all reference from Ether 6:6-8).  So no matter what trials we go through, the wind will always blow us to the promised land.  Or in other words, God always knows what He’s doing.  He knows where He wants to go, and what we’re to be learning.  I really liked that and wanted to share it with you all. =]
I just love being a missionary.  There are days when I feel like I really would rather be doing something else, but then I stop and re-evaluate and think how blessed I am.  I’m so blessed to be able to share with my brothers and sisters this wonderful gospel which brings so much joy and happiness into my life, and having the knowledge that it WILL bless theirs as well.  It’s just amazing.  And all the success we’ve had this week, is an absolute miracle.  It’s been hard for us to not get prideful, but we recognize it and are trying very very hard to remain humble servants.  Because ultimately, we know that without the help of the Lord, we would not be having this success.  It’s not us, it’s the Spirit who is touching the hearts of these amazing people.

With much love,
Sister Arbon

The Lord did not see fit to deliver them

Hello All!
So, housekeeping first.
Our lesson with Betty Lou this was week was probably the best we’ve ever had with her! We brought Brother and Sister Neilson with us to it, and they were perfect. Betty Lou understood the Plan of Salvation perfectly, and she FINALLY prayed the right way!! We were elated! Her date is set for December 16th and we really feel that if she continues to have lessons like that and continues to keep her commitments, she will make it no problem. She was not able to come to church though because she was out of town for Remembrance Day.  We ALSO got a new investigator this week because she invited a friend to the lesson!  Her name is Laura and we’re meeting with her again on Thursday. =]  Super great! We didn’t have a chance to get with Susan this week, but we have a lesson set up with her for Thursday night. She is really progressing. She wasn’t able to make it to church this week either, but she had come both last week and the week before and she has really enjoyed it both times! We are going to ask her if she wants her children, Brandon age 11, and Liron, age 7 to learn. They came to church with her last week and loved it, so we’re hoping that her answer will be in the positive. She is such a great lady! We love her. And Sister McCrae is the greatest true friend a person could ask for.Barb was also out of town this week for church, but we really feel like she is getting close. We went over the baptismal interview questions with her this week and she said the only one she really has any problem with is the Word of Wisdom. She said she just needs to pray about it. Then she said “I know what the answer is… I just need to pray to see if I want to do it or not.” She knows Joseph Smith is a prophet, she’s finished the Book of Mormon, and is restarting it, she believes that Thomas Monson is a prophet, and she has no other problems, that she says, besides the Word of Wisdom. The problem that WE see that she hasn’t mentioned is her fear of coming to church. She needs to keep the Sabbath Day holy, and she knows that she needs to come to church, we’re just trying to encourage her to actually do it. We know that she can! It’s just her knowing that she can that is the hard part. She’s so ready though. We don’t have a date with her yet, but we’re trying to get one. She said she wants to be keeping all the commandments before she sets a date, so that’s the hold up at the moment. We had a lesson with Mandy this week. We’re really not quite sure what to do with her. She loves having us come over, but she doesn’t keep her commitments at all, and so we feel like we need to drop her, but at the same time she has expressed her worry about us “abandoning her” if she doesn’t come to church. We’re stuck… we’ve got a lesson planned with her this Wednesday and we’ll kind of see where she’s at then and if she has kept any of this weeks commitments, and if not, we’ll probably be putting her in the reflecting pool for awhile, unfortunately.

Now, onto the good stuff.

Happy late birthday Zach!!!!  I got your letter in the mail, literally right after I dropped one to you in the mailbox.  So ignore the first part where I give you a hard time for not writing. hahaha.  Your writing is amazing and I’m so happy that you’re still doing it!
The big let down of the week….. The election results.  So, I don’t want to offend anyone here so I’m just going to say I was sad.  And then I was reading my scriptures and came across this passage in Mosiah.
Mosiah 21:15-16
“And now the Lord was slow to hear their cry because of their iniquities; nevertheless the Lord did hear their cries, and began to soften the hearts of the Lamanites that they began to ease their burdens; yet the Lord did not see fit to deliver them out of bondage.
And it came to pass that they began to proper by degrees in the land, and began to raise grain more abundantly, and flocks, and herds, that they did not suffer with hunger.”
The Nephites were slow to remember their God.  As are the Americans quite often.  The Nephite were in bondage to the Lamanites and they finally started praying to God to help them.  The Americans have finally kind of realized that we need God or our nation won’t stand.  God DID NOT SEE FIT to release the Nephites from bondage.  President Obama was re-elected.  And yet, God eased the burdens so that the Nephites couldn’t feel the weight on their backs.  God will help America to grow stronger because of this.  President Obama is the man God wants as the President.  And for that reason and that reason alone, I will sustain the President of our country.  And once we as a nation begin to remember the Lord in our lives, we too can prosper by degrees until we too are freed from bondage.
And that’s all I have to say about that.
I did not get transferred, and neither did Boss!!!  Hooray!!!  She is however probably going home at the end of this transfer. =[  We’re really sad, but missions end!  Go figure!
No crazy stories this week… OH!  Except I keep getting hit on by weirdies!  Every time we go tracting, at least one weird dude whistles at me or something.  Really getting annoying.  I may start going without makeup or something.  Haha.  Not really. But seriously it’s annoying.
And that’s that!
Love you all!!!  Happy Thanksgiving this week!  (it is this week right?  Canada already had theirs… haha)
Love Sister Arbon
